The Port Owen Yacht Club anchored in the Berg River Municipal jurisdiction, located in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, situated approximately 1 165 kilometer’s via road and 400 nautical miles via the sea from Lüderitz. The town of Lüderitz boasting with exotic scenery and a rich maritime history, will be the host to the inaugural Diamond Coast Yacht Race between Port Owen, South Africa and Lüderitz, Namibia starting on the 21st of March with the arriving in Lüderitz anticipated as from the 23 to the 25 March 2024, with eight boats having signed-up for this journey. The team from the Yacht Club are in Lüderitz on an exploratory and fact-finding mission and paid a courtesy call on the First Servant His Worship, the Mayor Hon. Cllr. Phillippus A. Balhao and expressed their desires of courting the Lüderitz Town Council to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding to further pursue tourism exchanges, amongst other twinning parameters. The highlight of the race will be when the Scrolls of Congratulations are exchanged between the two cities Mayor’s.
