The preparedness of the Lüderitz community for the opportunities presented by Green Hydrogen is important to ensure the full participation of the residents within its value chain. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, developed initiatives to foster a comprehensive understanding of green hydrogen (GH2) and its applications within Namibia’s unique context. The Green Hydrogen Masterclass was hosted in Lüderitz on the 26 April 2024 under the tutelage of Dr. Detlof von Oertzen with the primary objective to expedite the establishment of a sustainable hydrogen H2/PtX economy, while ensuring a fair and just energy transition. Opening the training, the First Servant, His Worship, the Mayor Hon. Cllr. Phillippus Balhao indicated that; ‘there exists a need to shift focus to green energy solutions in response to global warming whilst finding an equilibrium in allowing the two sectors (oil and green energy) to co-exist’.
