The investment in the youth and in particular the academia, is bound to yield positive results for communities and countries through the return on investments made as those supported plough back. The partnership is as a result of the initiation of the Office of the Mayor, during the tenure of Hon. Cllr. Benjamin Mckay, the Lüderitz Town Council, Lüderitz Secondary School, TotalEnergies EP Namibia, Schlumberger NV, known as SLB and Logistics Support Services, witnessed an investment worth Seven Hundred Thousand Namibian Dollars being made available for the renovations, refurbishments and equipment for the school. The development partners held a ceremony this morning on the 10 May 2024, for the hand-over of the completed works that were supervised by the Ministry of Works and Transport, speaking at the same occasion the ||Kharas Regional Director for Education, Arts and Culture Ms. Jesmine Magerman said that, “investing in the educational infrastructure provides a boost for the students, and in return ensures quality education and offers students a place for their full expression.” The former Mayor and current Member of the Town Council Management Committee Hon. Cllr. Mckay in his remarks stated that, “nine months ago on the 30 May 2023 the seed was planted and today we enjoy the birth of this beautiful baby, which must be protected against vandalism for the benefit of the future generation”. “In his speech during the ceremony, the MD of TotalEnergies EP Namibia Mr. Laurent ROCHÉ while expressing deep appreciation to all the partners (LSS, SLB, LTC, School Board, Teachers and Learners) for a successful project, stated that TotalEnergies EP Namibia, being the only International Oil Company (IOC) having done the choice to operate from Lüderitz for her Exploration and Appraisal campaign, identifies positive impact project with the Lüderitz community with a focus on youth education in line with Company’s policy and the Sustainable Development Goal No.04. He highlighted the need for continued collaboration and teamwork among other partners while admonishing the Lüderitz community to take ownership and safeguard the infrastructure.” Support is sought for the second phase renovations of the central and east blocks; the current renovations took approximately 60 days to complete and has given the school a facelift.
