LABOUR MINISTER ADDRESSES THE LOCAL FISHING SECTOR

Convention 190 is the first international treaty to recognize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence, Namibia has become the first African country and third in the world of to ratify this Convention in 2020. The Minister of Labor, Industrial Relations, and Employment and Creation, Hon. Utoni Nujoma [M. P.] in an effort to sensitize the fishing sector and advocate for the fair treatment of all employees, addressed the Lüderitz Fishing Sector on the 11 August 2023, at the Nest Hotel. The Director of Proceedings for the engagement the Acting Executive Director within the Ministry, Advocate Otniel Podewitz, lead the proceedings during the information sharing session, taking the participants through the implementation of C190 in the fishing industry setting out to address the requirements set out not only in the National Labor Legislations in terms of Occupational Safety and Health but that also enables Namibia to fully implement the ILO convention ‘Work in the Fishing, No. 188, ratified in 2018, respectively.
