DUTCH MUNICIPAL ALLIANCE ENGAGES COUNCIL

The successful integration of the multitude of business and socio-economic factors, for the vibrant and sustainable community of Lüderitz is largely defendant on the capacity of its local government. In order for the Lüderitz Town Council to meet the demands of the investors and its community, in ensuring that Lüderitz becomes fit-for-purpose for both the principal and subsidiary industries pertaining oil, gas and renewable energy; Council is looking at partnering up with the VNG International a Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG). The working visit held on the 17 October 2024 in Lüderitz by a delegation of VNG, centered around adding value to the local authority through, staff training and upskilling, project management in terms of the townland expansion and unlocking development funding to mention but a few, areas of cooperation. The team from VNG was further taken on a townland tour, that included the informal settlements with the eye to assist the Lüderitz Town Council in accelerating their formalization, as social housing ranks high on their agenda. The meeting concluded that, ethical planning is a must with a focus on the social fabric of Lüderitz, as the Lüderitz Town Council offers sustainable services to its constituents.
