TOTALENERGIES BACK FROM HIATUS

Posted: 27 Oct 2026

TotalEnergies EP Namibia, operator of three offshore petroleum licences—PEL 56, PEL 91 and PEL 83—located in the Orange Basin off the southern coast of Namibia, is set to resume drilling activities following the successful transaction with Galp Energia and the subsequent transfer of PEL 83 to TotalEnergies EP Namibia. The company’s return to drilling activity marks an important development for Namibia’s emerging oil and gas industry and presents significant opportunities for Lüderitz to further consolidate its position as a strategic logistics, services and support base for offshore exploration and future energy developments. On 23 October 2026, a TotalEnergies EP Namibia delegation engaged the Lüderitz Town Council during a briefing session hosted by the Chairperson of the Management Committee, Hon. Cllr. Ockert C. Theron, accompanied by fellow Management Committee Member Hon. Cllr. Bessly Makaula and members of the Council’s administrative staff. During the engagement, TotalEnergies outlined its planned drilling programme, which will see Lüderitz serve as the logistics base for three planned wells, comprising two exploration wells and one appraisal well. The activities on PEL 83 are particularly significant, with the company indicating that the results will contribute to the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Mopane development, targeted for the end of 2028. The resumption of drilling is further complemented by the planned restoration of daily subsidised flights between Lüderitz and Windhoek during October 2026. Improved air connectivity will enhance the accessibility of Lüderitz for investors, business executives, technical teams, service providers and other stakeholders, while strengthening the town’s attractiveness as a base for offshore energy operations. Beyond its operational activities, TotalEnergies EP Namibia reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with and supporting Namibia through identified priority areas, including environmental sustainability, youth development, education, arts, sports, culture and heritage.
