A society that thrives socio-economically does so with the participation of all its populace, that take up various occupations aimed at shouldering the responsibilities that culminates in a healthy growing community. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was hosted in Lüderitz on the 03rd of December 2024, officiated by the Deputy Minister of Disability Affairs Honorable Alexia Manombe-Ncube in the Office of the President, the commemoration themed; “Amplifying the leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” The event was attended by various organizations and federations that represent numerous disabilities, and started off with a march through the central business district of town to the Angra Pequena Senior Secondary School Hall where the official program was held. The keynote address delivered by the Deputy Minister laid emphasis on the need to involve the disabled through the creation of opportunities to take up leadership roles across various sectors, ensuring their voices are heard within the decision-making processes. The Deputy Minister further indicated that, the Government has made significant strides in ensuring that the rights of People with disabilities are upheld, promoted and protected through being a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of persons with Disability on the 25th April 2007. The Deputy Minister concluded her remarks urging for strategies that will create a more inclusive society that recognizes the values and leadership potential of Persons with Disabilities, leading towards a sustainable future, where no one is left out.
