
The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, Lüderitz Town Council, Green Hydrogen Commission, German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and development partners, are hosting a two-day workshop on the operationalization of the Southern Corridor Development Initiative (SCDI) in Windhoek, that kickstarted on the 15th July 2025. The workshop is aimed at building a strong institutional base to drive the many actions that will get the SCDI functional, with the primary focus on Aus and Lüderitz. The identified geo-localities are earmarked as strategic hubs by the Government and its stakeholders for Green Hydrogen, renewable energy generation, oil & gas, mariculture and other economic activity. The discussions centered around urban infrastructure, public support infrastructure, finance, town boundary expansion, social inclusion. The working session is expected to continue on the 16th July 2025 as it will offer a platform to the private sector representatives to have their chance to interact with Government representatives, and place their ambitions and requests from Government on the table.
