The Lüderitz Town Council was subjected to corruption risk identification, monitoring and evaluation by the Anti-Corruption Commission of Namibia, during this exercise several key risk areas we’re identified and flagged through which a corruption mitigation plan was drafted by the corruption watchdog for implementation by the Council. The Executive Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Namibia Mr. Tylvas N. Shilongo during the hand-over of the Assessment Report to the Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Otto K. Shipanga at the Council Head Office on the 25th September 2025, indicated the need to embody integrity and ethics as cornerstones to building a resilient entity that will eliminate corrupt practices within the roll-out of its mandate. The Council has in accordance to the tabled report, initiated mitigation measures to ensure that corruption does not take root in its operations and is committed towards institutionalizing further safeguards. The ED further praised the Council under the leadership of the Acting Chief Executive Officer for a “step in the right direction” and urged those in attendance to curb nepotism and favoritism in the execution of their roles and cautioned that, this is an on-going process and that Council must be open to re-monitoring and re-evaluation through ad-hoc spot checks for compliance. The Acting Chief Executive Officer implored the staff to re-commit themselves to upholding the values and principles that keep corruption at bay and further urged staff to report any suspicious activity to his office without fear or favor.
