The Japanese Ambassador His Excellency Asazuma Shinichi engaged Council during a working visit on the 30 October 2025 where he was received by the Deputy Mayor Hon. Cllr. Josephine Heita, Member of the Management Committee Hon. Cllr. Anna-Marie Hartzenberg, the Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Otto. Shipanga and Staff. The working visit was centered around the Japanese Ambassador indicating their interest in Hydrogen production with a particular focus on the Ammonia’s maritime transportation taking advantage of Japan’s cutting edge technological prowess. The current port expansion was equally discussed; where the Japanese desire offering their technical support to enhance the town’s logistics capacity. The Acting Chief Executive Officer indicated that, the only way to for the town to succeed is through international partnerships and further called on the inclusion of the town’s unemployed youth in socio-economic programs such as scholarships and training opportunities offered by the Japanese Government.
