The Labour Advisory Council, a body established in terms of the provisions within the Labour Act, Act 11 of 2007 engaged Council on the 20th January 2026. The audience was aimed at informing Council on their working visit agenda whilst soliciting inputs from Council on the situation on the ground pertaining labour matters within the fishing sector. The LAC further indicated that, their mandate is to ensure compliance with Convention 188 whilst guarding against employer and employee exploitation. The LAC was hosted by the First Citizen Her Worship, the Mayor Hon. Cllr. Brigitte I. Fredericks joined by other Councilor’s and the Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Austin K. Mubiana. The LAC is set to meet with both employers and employees within the fishing sector during their visit, with the pursuit of ensuring employer and employee wellbeing.
