The GIZ/ILA Project recently hosted a drawing competition for scholars in Grades 1–7 under the theme “My Vision for Lüderitz 2040.” The initiative aimed to foster creativity, build self-confidence, and provide learners with an opportunity to showcase their artistic skills while imagining a town filled with opportunities for the future. The participating schools included Diaz Primary School, Helene van Rhijn Primary School, Nautilus Primary School, and the Lüderitz Blue School, all of which submitted entries for adjudication. Winners in the various categories were announced on 12 March 2026, during an award ceremony held in the Council Chambers. The competition categories were grouped as follows: Grades 1–2, Grades 3–4, and Grades 5–7. The overall winner of the competition was Ms. Hoadadi Nowases, a Grade 7 learner from the Lüderitz Blue School. Speaking during the handover ceremony, Member of the Management Committee Hon. Cllr. Bessly Makaula remarked:
“This competition empowers our children to imagine the future and to see themselves as active participants in shaping a better tomorrow. Through creativity and expression, they begin to understand that their ideas and dreams matter in building the community we all envision.”
His Worship, the Deputy Mayor Hon. Cllr. Gideon Kalenga, who delivered the vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to the Council staff, the GIZ/ILA Project Team for organizing the competition, and to the sponsors, Nest Hotel, for their generous support.
