THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THOSE WHO PREPARE FOR IT TODAY

Investment in youth remains one of the most impactful drivers of sustainable community and national development. This was emphasised by Her Worship, the Mayor, Hon. Cllr. Brigitte I. Fredericks, during her keynote address at the Swearing-In and Inauguration of the Lüderitz Junior Council, held at the Council Chambers on 24 March 2026. The ceremony was hosted by the Mayor together with the Management Committee Chairperson, Hon. Cllr. Ockert C. Theron, and brought together learners from Angra Pequena Senior Secondary School, Lüderitz Secondary School, and the Lüderitz Blue School. During the occasion, the Junior Councilor’s elected their leadership. Cllr. Sarah Shindi of Angra Pequena Senior Secondary School was elected as Junior Mayor, deputised by Cllr. Kwame Gariseb, while Cllr. Anacleta Salvador assumed the role of Secretary. Cllr. Grazia Zitha from Lüderitz Secondary School was elected Treasurer. Additional members include Cllr. Chanelle Louw and Cllr. Carlos de Carvalho from Lüderitz Blue School, as well as Cllr. Brendell Karaerua from Lüderitz Secondary School, who will serve as Ordinary Councillor’s. The Junior Council will serve a term of one year, during which they are expected to represent the voice of the youth and contribute meaningfully to community development initiatives.
