The Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services and the Constituency Councilor for the !Nami ǂNûs Constituency, Member of Parliament, Hon. Suzan Ndjaleka, paid Council a working visit on the 16 April 2026. The Deputy Minister was received by Chairperson of Council and Her Worship, the Mayor Hon. Cllr. Brigitte I. Fredericks, accompanied by the Honorable Councilors’, as discussions centered around her dual mandate; serving both as a Constituency Councilor and Deputy Minister in the extension of Government’s presence at the grassroots whilst remaining representative of the country’s populace. The Deputy Minister called for the establishment of a ||Kharas Regional Traditional Leaders Forum for the attainment of a sustainable solution to the Shark Island/Port Expansion matter and encouraged Council to take the lead in partnership with the Regional Government. The working visit concluded with the Deputy Minister sharing some of her terms of reference, such as Social Welfare, Access to Healthcare and Mental Health Decentralization amongst others. Whilst assuring the Councilors’ that the Tobacco Control Act is currently under review to ban the smoking of Hubbly as a legislative change and that Lüderitz District Hospital will soon operate on a 24-hour basis with upgrades having been budgeted for by the Ministry.
